There is so much to do in and around Sorrento. Many people simply enjoy exploring and if this is the case, you probably don’t need a guide. But if you’re more of a planner, here’s some of our favorite thing to do in Sorrento. We start with the most popular tourist activities and then provide some lessor known ones.
Must-Do Activities
There’s a reason that most people do the most touristy things on holiday, and it’s generally because they are amazing things to do. These are all the most popular things to do in Sorrento, which are all absolutely worth doing:
- See the Amalfi Coast – Drive or take a boat tour along this stunning coast. This is, after all, what brings most people to Sorrento in the first place. The views are breathtaking and the towns are charming.
- Take a Trip to Capri – A short ferry ride away, Capri offers beautiful views, luxurious villas, and the famous Blue Grotto (which is a bit of a anti-climax in my humble opinion). Capri itself, though, amazing!
- Visit Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius – If you didn’t visit the ancient ruins of Pompeii as part of a trip to Naples, make the visit from Sorrento – well worth it.
- Mount Vesuvius – take a gentle hike up the volcano for amazing views.
- Explore the Old Town – Wander through the historic streets, full of shops, cafes, and colourful buildings or Sorrento. It’s a lively area perfect for a leisurely stroll. Stop for a coffee or cocktail on Piazza Tasso, which is the center of the city, and don’t forget to drop down to the marinas (grande and piccolo) to see the sea.
Alternative choices
- Take a boat trip – both Capri and the Amalfi Coast are spectacular from the sea. Well worth taking a day out on the water.
- Kayak in the Punta Campanella Marine Reserve For adventure lovers, kayaking here offers a chance to see the stunning coastline up close.
- Take a Cooking Class Learn to cook Italian dishes with local ingredients like olive oil and fresh produce.
